Altar Lighter

Oñi · Altar Lighter

"Devotion to the sacred union of Shango and Ochún · fire and river, thunder and honey"

THE INSPIRATION

Oñi — the Yoruba word for honey — is a celebration of the legendary union between Shango and Ochún: the warrior king and the radiant goddess, bound by desire, beauty, and power. Their divine romance holds the full spectrum of love: passion and tenderness, fire and sweetness, justice and grace.

This piece honors that balance. The flame and the river. The thunderclap and the honey that soothes it.

THE MATERIALS

Carnelian · for Shango's fire and vitality
Citrine · for Ochún's golden joy
Pearl · for purity and wisdom
Spiral seashells · for the eternal flow of water
Cowrie shells · for prosperity and protection

Each element holds both forces· neither one without the other.

THE DETAILS

Handcrafted by artist Njeri Akosua. Encased in a white leather pouch with Njeri's hand-dyed fabric. Fits a standard Bic lighter.

*Lighter not included.*

A flame of union · where fire meets river, and love strikes like thunder wrapped in honey.

Burn Care

Light candle for 2 hours the first time will get an even burn and avoid tunneling. Before each burn trim the wick to less than 1/4 of an inch, avoiding any black soot.

Never leave a candle unattended, near drafts, or move a candle while burning.
